About
Mixed Media Artist
Daring Buffalo Hunter is the work of Brain DeCicco built on the idea that nothing is truly disposable.
Each piece is created from materials that have been discarded or overlooked—sourced from thrift shops, estate sales, and the streets of New York City—and reimagined into something entirely new. Vintage sheet music, reclaimed canvases, CDs, and found objects are layered together, carrying fragments of their past into a new form.
Rooted in the practice of upcycling, the work reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability. By repurposing existing materials rather than creating new ones, each piece reduces waste while challenging the idea of what is considered valuable or worth preserving.
The work explores transformation, memory, and reuse—finding value in what others leave behind. Every material has a history, and each piece becomes a way of preserving and reshaping that story.
Brian DeCicco holds an MFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art and also studied film at the New York Film Academy. His background in sculpture informs the physicality and structure of his work, while his study of film influences his sense of composition, sequencing, and narrative.
Living and working in New York City, Brian draws constant inspiration from the pace, texture, and discarded layers of urban life. His process often begins with collecting—objects found on the street, uncovered at estate sales, or rediscovered in thrift shops—each chosen for its character, history, or overlooked potential.
An avid collector of vintage items and toys, he is drawn to objects that carry a sense of nostalgia and cultural memory. These elements often find their way into his work, adding both playfulness and depth.
At its core, Daring Buffalo Hunter is about reimagining what we value—transforming the discarded into something lasting, and creating artwork that is as unique as the materials it’s made from.
Every piece is one of a kind. No reproductions. No repeats.
